ABOUT ANDY
Andy Powell is a former Welsh and international rugby union player, having played for both the Wales sevens team and the Wales national rugby union team as well as touring with the British and Irish Lions.
Andy started his career in 1999 at Newport Rugby Club. He then made the Wales under 21 squad, joined the Leicester Tigers, then AS Béziers Hérault and then the Llanelli Scarlets.
In 2005, Andy joined the Cardiff Blues, making a huge impact in his first season, and stayed with the club until 2010, having also been selected for the Barbarians in 2009 against New Zealand.
Andy joined London Wasps in 2010, Sale Sharks from 2011 – 2012, Wigan Warriors in 2013, Newport Gwent Dragons in 2014 and Merthyr RFC in 2016 until his retirement.
Internationally, Andy played his first cap against South Africa for Wales in 2008, then in 2009, Andy was named as one of the members of the British & Irish Lions for the tour to South Africa.
At present Andy is coaching Southwell RFC, Midlands North- East.
Outside of coaching rugby, Andy has been a huge hit on the After Dinner Circuit. With stories about his career in the world of Rugby, including the famous ‘golf buggy’ incident.
